Goostavo (they/them) is the symbol of freedom in our team. Goostavo is a 3D printed goose and their eyes are made of carbon fiber. They represent our inclusive team regardless of gender. Goostavo sometimes rests on top of the cabinets and watches our teams working and blesses us with their presence and gives us motivation! This is Goostavo’s second year as a mentor for Da Geese Of Freedom.

Where We Came From

In 2020, Da Geese of Freedom was founded by the FRC Team, Degrees of Freedom. When they were brainstorming our team name, we wanted to be easily recognized as a sibling team to Degrees of Freedom, but also have an identity of our own. Degrees of Freedom’s logo is two hands intertwined together to form a dove!
While our team started with five members, we have made efforts to grow our flock. We are currently 8 geese strong in our third season. We had a gap year during the year 2021-2022 due to our founding members wishing to focus on FRC. All the students this year are new to FTC. While some of the mentors have experience mentoring in FIRST, we also have a number of mentors who are new to FIRST.

Our goal is not to just have students build robots, but to have robots build students!
Da Geese Of Freedom is the latest addition to the Si Se Puede Foundation’s efforts to provide high-quality STEM opportunities to girls and gender-minority students. The mission of Da Geese of Freedom is to support everyone in our community through robotics and STEM, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, creed, national origin, age, or disability. We strive to offer opportunities for STEM experience to everyone, especially gender minorities. One of our many core values is inclusion, we strive to make our team and the STEM Center an inclusive place.

Gooseious Professionalism

We pride ourselves on being an open and welcoming space, not only for our team members, but also for other FTC teams. One of the ways we do this is by exercising Gooseious Professionalism, which means recognizing that everyone is part of our flock and working together by flying in formation to ensure everyone arrives at the destination of reaching their full potential. We also invited other teams to share in our resources.
